Emergency Communications
Since its inception, C.A.R.L.A. has always been devoted to providing a reliable means of communications for not only day to day radio operations but particularly for emergency, disaster, special event, training and advanced communications needs. Being prepared with a plan for a local area emergency or a wide area disaster is important and having access to a reliable communications network when all else fails is a critical part of that plan.
For this reason, we strive to offer a multitude of systems with:
- Some degree of overlapping coverage areas
- Battery and/or generator back-up power
- Diverse link paths & hubs
- Increased over-all uptime
- Open availability for anyone
We maintain and allow our repeaters and network to be used as communications resources for individuals, groups, agencies and organizations such as:
- State Office of Emergency Service
- Department of Homeland Security
- City & County Offices of Emergency Services
- The American Red Cross
- Various SAR/Search & Rescue groups
- Various ACS/Auxiliary Communication Service groups
- ARES & RACES groups
- VIP/Volunteers in Prevention groups
And they are used for numerous events like:
- Marathons, Bicycle Races/Tours, Charitable Walks
- Hospital & emergency resource drills
- Medical assistance & logistics for special events
- Resource nets
- Tactical nets
Some events and drills that have relied on C.A.R.L.A. resources in the past:
- Bay to Breakers
- Nike Marathon
- Golden Guardian exercise
- Bridge to Bridge run
- Aids walk
- SF Marathon
- EMSA
